Caption
Phainopepla (Phainopepla nitens) is our sole representative of the Silky Flycatcher family (Ptilogonatidae). The male is a beautiful black crested bird with a striking white stripe on each wing. The female is rather duller in color, but similar otherwise. Their regular note is a low "wheer", but we heard them sing this song in late Summer.
