Caption

Ancylus, from Lake Ochrid, Macedonia. Ancient lakes have their own endemic species of animals, including mollusks. In Europe, the ancient Lake Ochrid has a large and highly endemic molluscan fauna. These six species of Ancylus do not occur anywhere outside the lake.
