Caption

Lithasia shells, four species and four subspecies (left to right, top to bottom: L. geniculata, L. geniculata fuligenosa, L. pinguis, L. obovata, L. salebrosa, L. salebrosa subglobosa, L. salebrosa florentiana). Lithasia is an eastern North American freshwater snail genus inhabiting clean streams. Unfortunately, pollution, silting and habitat modification (canalization, impoundments) are threatening the existence of all of its species.
