Caption

A chiton from the South Pacific, ventral view. Most chitons live on hard substrates (rocks, corals, etc.) and are equipped with a tenaciously clinging foot. The mouth, visible at the head end (on the right) is situated on a velum, a flat structure in front of the foot.
