Cherrie's Tanager (Ramphocelus passerinii costaricensis) chirps. This species was previously split from the Scarlet-rumped Tanager, creating two species, Cherrie's (Ramphocelus passerinii costaricensis), which occurs mostly on the Pacific slope, and Passerini's (Ramphocelus passerinii passerinii), which inhabits primarily the Carribean slope. The Cherrie's female is much more boldly-colored than Passerini's, but males are essentially similar.
