Achatina fulica, India. The "Giant African Snail" is a serious pest wherever it has been introduced. Originally from East Africa, humans have distributed it throughout South and Southeast Asia, and to many of the Pacific Islands. Misguided attempts to eradicate the snail, mainly initiated by the Hawaiian Department of Agriculture, have caused more harm than good.
